Expect a busy week ahead....
Bethany College's Messiah Festival of the Arts continues through Sunday with lectures, visual arts exhibits, recitals and performances. Of special note are the performances of Bach's "St. Matthew Passion" on Good Friday evening and Bach's masterwork, "Messiah" on Easter Sunday afternoon. Tickets at the doors. Details: https://www.messiahfestival.org/2017/events/ From 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 14, stroll down Makers Street for an art walk featuring new works and faces, as well as arts demonstrations, short talks, and opportunities for hands-on creativity. Maps available at participating locations. Stop for beverages or meals; invite friends and family. Be relaxed and at your own pace. On Saturday, April 15, Lindsborg hosts Kansas Travel and Tourism's first statewide Instameet. In these gatherings, guests are invited to use cellphone cameras to photograph what they see in a place, then post resulting pictures to a photo-sharing site called Instagram using the hashtags #noplacelikeks and #lindsborg or #lbk. (Hashtags provide a way to search Instagram so users can find photos about particular places or ideas.) To help kick off Kansas' Instameet concept, Lindsborg's own Jim Richardson will present "Secrets of iPhone Travel Photography" at noon in the J.O. Sundstrom Conference Center. Then Instameet guests will be invited to try out new photo skills in Lindsborg. Our Convention and Visitors Bureau has prepared for guests a list of local photo-rich locations ranging from natural wonders to artists studios to dancing on the street. Advance registrations and Instagram accounts are required. Go to www.travelks.com for info. Also on Saturday, Apr. 15: Drop by at 4 p.m. or shortly after for refreshments to help Lindsborg's Tara Killingsworth celebrate her first year in business at The Ivory Thimble. Our town is so fortunate to have connected with Tara, a clothing designer and tailor. She's already put her creative shoulder to the wheel with the business community, Bethany College and Broadway RFD -- in addition to building her own business. Cheers to you, Tara. A week from today, 7-8 p.m. on Monday, April 17, we are invited to get an update and review of Bethany College's five-year strategic plan. Head to Pearson Chapel on campus to engage with President William Jones and his cabinet. Further ahead is Lindsborg in Bloom on Saturday, April 29. It's new and improved in 2017 with outdoor performances from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., a mini-Makers Street to showcase creatives and their items, and plenty of 1960s-era ham. Programming note: News and Notes is on a planned hiatus until the week of Monday, May 8.
