Among the many three cheers sent up at last Monday’s Ad Hoc gathering, we all gave a hearty shout-out for the Lindsborg Swedish Folk Dancers and its coordinator, Melinda Hansen of Falun. Thanks, Melinda, and *all* the dancers and families for your parts in making a truly beautiful and gracious Lucia Day in Lindsborg. It’s one of the best parts of us. Another cheer went up for Marquette Mayor Rusty Young and his son Travis Young, who are driving Marquette and Lindsborg in a farm truck featuring a large lighted Christmas tree and a caroling crew that hands out candy canes. Now, that’s what we’re talking’ about! The Merry Christmas Truck will be back in Lindsborg on Friday evening, so if you’d like a visit, let Mayor Rusty know the address. You can find him on Facebook. Thanks to the Youngs for the impromptu seasonal fun so generously shared. We also cheered two new businesses, Hometown Accounting Services LLC and Kelly French, MS, LPC. The two will be situated in offices at 104 N. 2nd in the former Howe’s Lumber. Hometown Accounting is owned by Kayley J. Fleming CPA, and as you might imagine, the firm can provide a full range of tax and individual, family and business accounting services. Kelly French is a licensed professional counselor with a master’s degree. She provides counseling to individuals, students, and families. Kayley’s accounting business will hold an open house from 4 to 6:30 on Tuesday, Dec. 19 — and Kelly will be on hand also. A separate open house will be held after the first of the year by Kelly, and Kayley will be on hand for that celebration. So: Two chances to say hello. We are so glad to welcome both young women and their skills to a new Lindsborg headquarters — and to our Ad Hoc network. Ad Hoc is setting its special event dates for January through August 2018. On this list of events is an experiment: Vike Fest Lindsborg on Feb. 3 and 4. We invite you to follow its Facebook event page and jump in now with ideas and plans. The Viking encampment will be headquartered on the campground south of the river near the Old Mill complex. Gear up now for a “Vikes on Bikes” trail ride. And hey, a beard contest, too. Games of brawn and skill. Reenactors. Food. (Massive roasted turkey drumsticks, anyone?) There will be Capture the Flag games for teams and individuals. Want even more fun? Join in as entertainment, crafts, food vendor or volunteer. Message Deb Briggs at Trollslanda or Rick Bodenhamer at Rendezvous Adventure Outfitters. Rugged men and women wanted. Don’t forget to bring the kids to visit with our own Mrs. Claus and decorate cookies at Lindsborg’s First Bank Kansas this Saturday, Dec. 16, from 10-1.
